The Best Technology Available for Colonoscopy

The Fuse Endoscopy system is a new type of endoscope with 3 operational cameras making it possible to detect a significantly higher number of pre-cancerous lesions, or adenomas, during a colonoscopy. The New Fuse Endoscopy system is offered exclusively at East Tennessee Ambulatory Surgery Center by Dr. Pennington.

Transanal Hemorrhoidal Devascularization (THD) Procedure: A Minimally Invasive Out-Patient Procedure for Hemorrhoids

THD uses a doppler to locate the terminating branches of the hemorrhoidal arteries. Once the artery is located, an absorbable suture is used to ligate or “tie-off” the arterial blood flow. The venous “out flow” remains to “shrink” the cushion. This is done without excision of tissue. If necessary a hemorrhoidopexy is performed to return the hemorrhoid to its normal anatomical position. Again, this is done with suture and no excision of tissue. Franklin Woods Community Hospital is the only facility in the Tricities with THD technology.

THD Procedure Benefits:

  • Quick outpatient procedure, about 30 minutes

  • Minimal post-op pain; patients are back to normal activities within 4 days

  • Minimally-invasive, no excision of tissue, limited risk of complications

  • Performed above the dentate line "no pain zone"

  • Doppler guidance, ensures artery location for ligation

Dr. Pennington encourages Functional Medicine approaches to address complex disorders of the gastrointestinal system. IBS symptoms are best treated with an Elimination Diet.
